Darby Nursery Stock Ltd. is located in Norfolk on the site of the original farm and has a wide range of growing facilities including outside beds, Poly tunnels and two glass houses.
A brief history of Darby’s
1951- Brothers, Francis & Hugh Darby began growing soft fruit, vegetables & salad crops.
1962- Began diversifying into ornamental horticulture
1963- Formed Darby Nursery Stock Ltd. as a separate company.
1970- Joined with Whartons Nurseries, Morley Nurseries, Blooms of Bressingham & Mathews Trees to form the Anglia Group of Nurseries to create a marketing co-operative.
1986- Awarded the Royal Warrant by appointment HM The Queen for supplying ornamental shrubs and trees.
1989- Launched Ballerina Trees to the trade.
1989- Francis Darby semi-retired!
1993-2003 Extensive investment in 5 acres of modern glass at Broad Fen Farm, the original site of the farm
1994- Hugh Darby semi-retired
1995- Launched ‘Temptations’ Brand
2005- Expanded the range to include Herbaceous Plants
2008- Awarded ISO 14001
2011- Third generation of Darby’s joins the business
2011- Antirrhinum Eternal Magenta wins ‘Best New Herbaceous Plant’ at HTA National Plant Show
2012- Hydrangea Dark Angel wins ‘Best New Plant’ at HTA National Plant Show
2014- Trollius 'Dancing Flame' takes Best in Show title at HTA National Plant Show
2015- Salvia Love & Wishes wins both the public & judges vote to take Best in Show title & Best New Herbaceous Plant at HTA National Plant Show
